TRASHCAN SINATRAS ANNOUNCE ACOUSTIC DATES, INCLUDING A SHOW WITH BELLE & SEBASTIAN
Following the Release of Their New Album In the Music, the Trashcan Sinatras’ 20th Anniversary Celebrations Continue With a Tour Starting in Seattle on October 20
The Band Invites Fans to Request Favorites For Their Set List
(Chicago, IL) Twenty years since their debut release Cake and indie-smash singles “Obscurity Knocks” and “Only Tongue Can Tell,” the Trashcan Sinatras are as busy as ever celebrating this milestone.
With the recent North American release of the band’s fifth studio album, In the Music, the band completed a summer promotional tour in the United States. Now the Trashcans prepare to launch an acoustic tour in the western USA; it includes an invitation to play a Seattle date with follow Scottish indie-pop favorites, Belle & Sebastian.
“We had been talking about touring the USA this fall. When this opportunity to play with Belle & Sebastian came up, we decided to organize a little acoustic tour at the same time,” says guitarist John Douglas. “We last played with them at an outdoor festival in Glasgow a few years ago and it was a great time, so we’re looking forward to it.”
Along with ten new studio recordings, In the Music includes eight previously unavailable bonus acoustic tracks recorded live over the course of two shows in Glasgow last year. Those concerts led to the upcoming release, Brel – 17 tracks showcasing the Trashcan Sinatras’ acoustic lineup, including arrangements of new songs from In the Music. According to guitarist Paul Livingston, “We recorded the shows in Glasgow with an eye toward using them as bonus tracks on future releases. It worked out well that earlier songs complimented In the Music, while the live versions of many of the newer tracks form the basis for Brel.”
While promoting In the Music and readying Brel, the band has been busy in other ways – they were recently asked to record a cover of the Beatles’ “Hello Goodbye,” which anchors a year-long ad campaign for Narita (Tokyo) Airport.
As a special nod to the band’s fans and in appreciation for their longstanding support, fans are invited to submit song requests through the Trashcan Sinatra’s official website, with the most requested songs for each show included in that night’s performance. Says Livingston, “using our four-piece acoustic lineup of original band members, we have more of our back catalog available for set lists. We thought it would be fun for us and the fans to give them a chance to vote for songs. It will be interesting to see the results!”
Having released Cake in 1990 and first toured the United States in 1991, all of this activity represents a “20th Anniversary” of sorts. Fittingly, the Trashcans are finalizing plans to re-release their back catalogue in 2011, with a larger acoustic tour of the United States to follow.
In the Music is available from Lo-Five Records through all major music retailers via Fontana Distribution and digital download sites via INgrooves. Brel will be available digitally in late 2010, also via INgrooves.
